Julian Kostov was born in Varna, Bulgaria on the 25th of August, 1989. Kostov was a professional swimmer winning 10 national titles amongst more than 60 medals, and is a bronze medalist at the Balkan Games (2007). He graduated as a Bachelor of Business Management (Tilburg University,NED and CMU,UK). In 2011 having auditioned for the first time in his life, Kostov became a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.


Kostov’s early credits feature him as a co-lead in two US action-packed feature films – Code Red (2013, eOne) and A Passage to Hell (2014, Nu Image), and as a recurring guest role in 24:Live Another Day (2014). While he became known for action, Kostov racked up roles in other genres too. He starred in the hit Bulgarian comedy Rapid Response Corps 2: Nuclear Threat (2013), played the 'bad boy' in romantic drama Bar Tricks (2015, Millennium Films) and a charming eastern European mobster in the crime pilot Color Me Grey (2015). 

Later credits include blockbusters London Has Fallen (2016) and Ben Hur (2016) and his role as a villainous Roman General Marcus in TV-series Barbarians Rising (2016). Kostov joined the cast of the legendary Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise’s prequel Leatherface, which is due to come out in 2017. He often plays American characters because of his natural American accent which he got from watching Cartoon Network as a child but his biggest part to date is as a Russian prisoner of war.


Kostov lost 10kg in 4 weeks for his latest movie, Another Mother’s Son. The British drama, directed by two time BAFTA winner Christopher Menaul is set to premiere in cinemas on March 24th in the UK. It follows the true story of an escaped Russian POW, Bill, and a courageous woman, Louisa Gould, who sheltered the young man for nearly two years during the Nazi occupation of Jersey.

Kostov is currently in post-production of his first feature film as a producer - The Dare. The psychological horror, directed by Giles Alderson, was shot in Nu Boyana Film Studios and is being distributed by Millennium Films and is set to come out in 2017.
Kostov's next feature Vicious is currently in casting, with Richard Brake already attached to the project. The film is based on the award-winning short - Vicious (2015).
